The Gun Dilemma

While I believe fully in the right to own a gun and use it in defense from attack or for hunting, I'm also in a dilemma regarding whether as a Believers we are to plan on fighting and resisting the Antichrist forces using actual weapons.

After all the Word does say "he that kills by the sword must be killed by the sword".

The sword being the weapon of those days, I tend to equate the sword with today's gun. Then there's the verse in Rev 13:10 that makes it sound that if you kill with the sword/gun you will then be killed with the sword/gun:

Rev 13:10  He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints. -KJV

I always figured that meant is that if I planned on defending myself or family with a gun, that I could expect to be killed with the same. However, reading this verse is some other version (not that I recommend anything by the KJV) is interesting:

Rev 13:10  Whoever is to be a prisoner, will be a prisoner. Whoever is to be killed with a sword, will be killed with a sword. This means that God's holy people must have patience and faith. -ERV

This makes it sound like it has nothing to do with killing and being killed (implying more than one person) but that it is some kind of pre-destination.

Rev 13:10  If anyone is taken prisoner, he must go to prison. If anyone is killed with a sword, with a sword he must be killed. In this situation God's holy people need endurance and confidence. - GW

Now this one doesn't make any sense at all!

I still think that the Word is indicating that if we kill by the sword we will be killed the same way. Now I always thought this verse was actually "he would lives by the sword will die by the sword" which to me would have meant something different, but when I actually reread it, I discovered it didn't say that.

In fact there's the word "must" in there as well, so that if you kill by the sword, then you must be killed by the sword....hmmmmm.

Having said all that it is up to the individual to make up their own mind as to whether they are going to stock up on defensive weapons like guns. As evidenced by the news, more and more people are determined to exercise their right to have a gun, and I'm sure many of those call themselves "Christian".

Here's why:
